Activities
Grand Cayman has tons of activities for you to partake in. They include:
-Scuba Diving (operators will come pick you up)
-Parasailing (Parasailing Professionals will pick you up on the beach)
-Snorkeling (you can find some great snorkeling from right off the beach
- that is the advantage of a rocky beach. If you swim
south, there is a rusting wreck that has awesome
snorkeling)
-Jet Ski (you can take a "wave runner safari", leaving from the Marriott just down the beach)
-Visit the Turtle Farm (the Turtle Farm is one of the most famous attractions in Cayman)
-Take a submarine ride (Atlantis submarine rides are great fun for the whole family)
-Lounge out by the pool
-Go for a dip in the crystal clear pool
-Play a set of tennis on the lighted courts
-Go for a round of golf at one of the nearby championship courses
Shopping & Dining
7 Mile Shops and Queens Plaza are located right across from GeorgeTown Villas, between GeorgeTown Villas and the busy West Bay Road, allowing for hours of browsing through curio, clothing, and dive shops. There are several restaurants in the mall (they do open and close so any list is soon obsolete). Staples have been a wonderful Thai restaurant (Thai Orchid), an Irish pub (Fidel Murphy’s), the O Bar (a bar), a Caymanian restaurant, and a pizza shop.
If you walk right on West Bay Road, towards GeorgeTown, the Wharf is a wonderful restaurant on the sea ¼ mile away, and there are US fast food stores. When you get to Kirk Supermarket (1/2 mile away), you can turn left on Eastern Avenue, and find shopping on both sides of the street (hardware, shoes, furnishings, appliances, and so on). If you continue straight, Georgetown is another ½ mile away and there are restaurants every couple hundred feet till you get to the city itself. Then there are stores and restaurants galore on both sides of the street. Georgetown is famous for its duty free shopping and wonderful dining.
If you walk left or North on West Bay Road, away from GeorgeTown, there are hotels and condo complexes with some restaurants on your left (ocean) side, and shopping malls and restaurants one after another on your right side. The Marriott is ½ mile away, the Ritz is about 1 1/2 miles away.
Getting Around
We tend to walk everywhere we need to go, including to dinner and to downtown George Town. There will be times when you will need a car, and you can either rent a car, or use a tax. Taxi services abound. You call them and they come pick you up wherever you are.
